Right now it feels like I am off of everybody’s radar. I have become a non-entity. This makes me sad. |
| The Dead Balls - Update |
|
I’ve been playing well on my pool league team this last month. The start to my season was average, the middle of the season wasn’t so good but the end of my season has been awesome. In 9-ball league there are 20 points to be awarded in a match handicapped by your player rating. Each ball is worth one point with the nine ball being worth two. First to xxx points wins. If you are the same rating as your opponent then you play to the same score. If they are rated higher than you then they have to get more points, and so on. If you win your match by one or two points then the smallest of splits is awarded, 12-8. The larger the gap, the more lopsided the point distribution. My last four matches have been won 14-6, 16-4, 14-6 and last night’s 17-3. That means that in the last four weeks I’m up 61-19 over my opponents. Holy crap! Last night I shot well on a table that seemed possessed, rolling balls in crazy directions. But more than that, I played smart. I shot a lot of defense in an attempt to fluster my opponent. I got a couple of nice breaks. Looking forward to playoffs for the first time since I joined and to us enjoying home field advantage throughout! |

A friend of mine in canada sent me cookies. They kick ass and I completely love them. Fortunately for me their taste is not linked to their form. This is how they arrived… |

I’m at tiki torch, where’s bunch of people interested in information security were supposed to meet to practice tricks of their trade. Alas, it is closed. My car says it’s 15 degrees outside. That’s cold… |

| Where to be, what to do? |
|
The other day I was driving to a business meeting with Pete and he told me, at least half serious, that I should go to Vegas and try to make a living there. I have entertained this notion in the past but I have never chosen it. I’m good at cards, especially in a casino setting. I don’t know why I shy away from the notion of making a living playing cards but it’s hard for me to choose. If my play locally is any indicator then I’d make at least as much as I’m currently making, probably a lot more. And I could keep doing other work on the side if I wanted or needed to. Do I want to live in Vegas? Hard to say. Atlantic City? Not really. New Orleans? A good place to visit. Reno? Lake Tahoe? Do I want to play online? At least I know the answer to that last one is a no. At least not now. I like playing the people and that doesn’t translate very well to online. Cass doesn’t have a lot of attachment to Denver. She’d love to be somewhere warm. I’m getting less and less interested in winter. We have considered traveling around the country, living four to eight days in one place before moving on. I could work remotely without a lot of issue and it would be cheaper than the way we are living now. We wouldn’t do this until March at the soonest. Where to live? What to do? I’d love to try my hand at cards but I lost my bankroll to taxes. I don’t want to try to do this without at least 5k to start out with. But I don’t have a family to support, I don’t have a house to take care of once this lease is up. I am still somewhat young and this would be a great time to try it. I am not having much fun at my job these days though it has improved a lot over the past couple months. I can see me giving it a go. Maybe it’s just a matter of pulling the trigger? |
